This is a super easy pattern for the fingerless gloves inspired by my aunt Felicia, who's style and accessorizing skills are unmatched! The first time I made these they were magenta, like my aunt's first car in the 90's. The main stitch is slip stitches into the back loops only, or the elastic stitch! This is also a nearly no-sew pattern, meaning you'll only sew one seam together using slip stitches.
The full written directions are also in the Patterns section of this website; below are some videos to accompany those directions!
Materials needed:
I/9 5.25 or H 5mm crochet hook
Tapestry or yarn needle for weaving in ends
Scissors
1 skein worsted weight (4) yarn
*Note: You can use any worsted weight yarn, but I used Lima Wool from Hobbii.
Skills/Stitches to know:
Single crochet (sc)
Slip stitch (sl st)
Chain (ch)
Whip stitch or mattress stitch (for sewing seams, optional)
Directions:
Grab your yarn and chain 25.
R1: sl into the 2nd chain from the hook. Repeat for the rest of the stitches (24).
R2: ch 1 and turn. Sl into the back loop only (BLO) of the 2nd stitch from the hook. Repeat for all other stitches.
R3 to R19: Repeat R2 for 16 more rows.
R20: After your usual ch 1 and turn, slip stitch into the next 9 stitches in BLO. Ch 4, skip 4 stitches and sl into the 14th stitch in both loops. This creates the thumb hole! Then sl into remaining 10 stitches in BLO. Ch 1 and turn.
R21: Sl into the first 10 stitches in BLO. When you reach the connected chain 4, sc 5 times around the chain. Then continue to sl in BLO for the remaining 9 stitches. Ch 1 and turn.
R22-R37: Continue as before, sl into each stitch for 24 stitches. Repeat for 15 rows.
Fold your work in half; this stitch is generally the same on both sides, but fold your work so your "wrong side" is on the outside.
Slip stitch into both edges along the side to "sew" up the seam. You should end at the same corner where your starting tail end is.
Optional: I like the raw hem at the fingertips, but for the gloves pictured I did one row of single crochet stitches for the hem at the wrists. If you used the method above to secure the hem along the length, continue with the direction below:
Ch 1. Sc along the edge for 1 row. At the end, slip stitch to join into your first sc. Cut a 6 inch tail, fasten and weave in your ends. Turn your work inside out (or really, right side out) and you're done!
