I've been crocheting for 10 years and I've seen crochet trends come and go, but I'm not sure I've seen a cardigan style take the crochet community by storm quite like the Hexagon Cardigan! It's popularity shouldn't be surprising, and here's a few reasons why:
1. It's a beginner-friendly project, with results that look like an expert's work
You certainly don't have to be an expert crocheter to make a hexagon cardigan. You just need to know some basic stitches, and if you're not looking to customize the cardigan too much you'll only have to sew one seam together. The Hexagon Cardigan is simply two granny hexagons, folded in half and sewn together. You can sew the two sides of a hexagon cardigan with your preferred method too, with slip stitches or a mattress stitch and either will look great!
2. It doesn't take ages to make
While we all love a good single crochet stitch for it's stitch definition and tight structure, making an entire cardigan with single crochet stitches feels like a daunting project less than half way through. The use of 3 double crochet stitches together in a granny square style makes this type of cardigan pattern easily a 1 week endeavor. I added cuffs to my own version of the hexagon cardigan and it felt as though the cuffs took longer than the two hexagons.
3. It's easily sized up or down
One of the common woes I've seen within the crochet community is that it's sometimes hard to find patterns in a wide range of sizes. The Hexagon Cardigan is easy to make bigger or smaller, exactly how you like it, and generally all you have to do is add more rows to your two hexagons that make up the two halves of your cardigan.
4. Customization is also super easy
You can add hems, extra length, hoods, cuffs, buttons, you name it. On my own version in the photos, I added ribbed cuffs with a simple single crochet.
